For his first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland, Algerian-French artist Neil Beloufa (*1985) will create an expansive installation of sculptural and video work at Kunsthalle Basel thematically exploring the financial and banking system.

Beloufa’s artistic practice is fuelled by a critical and reflective view of society in the information age as well as its acute effects and manifestations. These include representations of reality and social fictions, the activities of capitalist interest groups, post-colonial consequences, identity constructions, digital surveillance and control as well as existing power structures in politics, business and society. He looks at the underlying basic structures and uses this vocabulary artistically to create works that enable a critical (and sometimes humorous) reflection on these systems and their effects and intentions in the viewer.
